Give an example of when you had to make a quick decision as a security officer.
Let's talk about one of them when I was faced with resistance to convince my boss to put in place an efficient and rapid response to deal with any emergency on the runway when taking off or landing. planes, in particular how and who will take over in this situation which can save lives and equipment?
When I started my job as the Base Safety and Security Officer, I asked my boss to conduct a field inspection and review to get an overview of my subordinates and identify areas of concern.
During this inspection, I noticed that the calibration date for the cargo and baggage scales had expired. This faulty calibration of the weigher for freight and baggage can lead to major safety risks. Due to the inaccurate reading of weight machines, the team cannot always guarantee that the cargo loaded on the planes does not exceed the maximum allowable weight. In addition, I noticed the lack of a functioning screen that could create a risk of transporting dangerous goods in military planes without being detected. Both of these failures were unacceptable even if it was a military-to-military transport. I immediately notified my boss and made an emergency request to send a team to calibrate the scales. The screening machine was not available in the warehouse, so ordered the team leader to ensure that manual screening is done and send a purchase order for a new one. I also asked them to temporarily use the portable metal detector for baggage inspection.
By making this decision, the Air Transport Regulation was applied, as air safety is the most important rule in this situation.
